This is a good and necessary post for folks who don't know where to start with messengers. I still find Session to be too green for general use. I don't mind it, but getting others to use it doesn't pan out. Signal still seems to be the king for private chats, and telegram for business related messaging in my experience.

Session is definitely still a work-in-progress, and the spam domination in the public chatrooms makes that feature less useful than Telegram's which have at least some moderation. Signal is my go-to, and then I'm using Simple SMS Messenger on Android for handling any SMS (non-Signal users).

wow this was interesting, since i grew up with an ipod and no phone, messaging apps were always my go to. I remeber using text plus but always havig to watch videos to earn "credits" in order to be able to call, it did tho give me a phone number to use. I never thought about the fact that private messaging apps actually arent all that private at all

I remember Text+ from back in High School when I first got a cell phone, it was all the rage. Now it seems to have taken a backseat entirely to all these big name apps.
